0:00 Imagine you're driving down the road at
0:02 night with a few of your friends to a
0:04 destination. A destination that you may
0:08 never reach.
0:09 A destination that tells you to take the
0:12 next right on your GPS 3 mi ahead.
0:17 And when you go [music] to take that
0:19 right, that road never shows itself.
0:24 So, you double back, thinking you might
0:27 have missed the turn, [music] not paying
0:28 attention to the GPS.
0:32 And when you drive back, you never see a
0:34 turn again.
0:37 So, you double back
0:40 and the [music] road ends. You're
0:42 trapped on an infinite highway
0:45 forever.
0:51 >> Let's get into it.

1:04 >> What's up, guys? And welcome back to
1:06 Beyond the Void. My name is Alex and
1:09 today we're going to be doing a
1:10 spoiler-free review of It Ends, a movie
1:15 that was at the festivals that some of
1:18 us got to see, but many of us have not.
1:21 Thanks to Letterbox, the application on
1:23 your phone for a lot of horror movie
1:25 buffs as well as just movie buffs in
1:27 general, they started a new service that
1:30 you can actually rent festival films
1:33 that you might have missed at the
1:34 festival or not had a chance to go to
1:37 and give it to a wider audience. This
1:40 movie is about $20 to rent on the
1:43 letterbox service and you can go and
1:45 rent it right now, which may be a little
1:48 bit of money for you, but I got to say I
1:51 really, really enjoyed this film.
1:54 Friends on a late night food run that
1:56 become trapped on an infinite highway
1:58 with otherworldly terrors lurking
2:01 beyond. Confined in their Jeep Cherokee,
2:04 they must decide whether to accept their
2:06 fate or attempt an escape. But will it
2:10 matter? This is a directorial debut from
2:13 Alex Ulam, who is currently working on
2:16 another film called 4x4, which is
2:18 supposed to be some sort of battle
2:20 royale experience, which if it's as good
2:24 as this movie is going to just blow my
2:27 mind because this one I really loved.
2:31 Now, I want to be as vague as possible
2:32 about this movie because I really feel
2:34 like it's a movie that you just need to
2:35 kind of take the jump and just
2:37 experience for yourself. But I also want
2:39 to set some, you know, mild expectations
2:43 maybe that you might want to just
2:44 alleviate. And that is that, you know,
2:47 this is an indie film. So it is an indie
2:49 budget film that is going to be doing a
2:51 lot with very little. And so your
2:54 expectation levels can't be at a Marvel
2:56 movie experience. But the depth of this
2:59 movie is some of the best film making I
3:02 think from indie filmmakers that you can
3:05 make. And not always do you need $120
3:09 million to experience that. This isn't a
3:12 pure horror film. This is what they
3:14 consider to be a fantasy horror sci-fi
3:18 thriller. I could say that this
3:20 definitely has all those vibes in it.
3:22 Now, I also want to mention that there
3:24 is no trailer for this movie, so I can't
3:26 intercut it with pictures and videos and
3:29 all that other stuff, but just
3:30 understand I can't add stuff I don't
3:32 have, and I don't want to spoil anything
3:34 anyway. So, I don't want to show you
3:35 anything. You just need to experience
3:37 it. Now, this movie hit me pretty hard
3:39 and I really enjoyed it quite a bit. I
3:41 personally feel that this is a movie
3:43 that everyone can relate to. Like, this
3:46 feels like a Twilight Zone movie, a
3:50 really cool, hookie, you know,
3:52 interesting story idea that is going to
3:54 have several thrilling, scary, happy,
3:58 sad, a myriad of different emotional
4:00 like charges in this film. But there is
4:03 going to be a pocket of people that may
4:05 not be wanting something of this
4:07 emotional depth. But I think is a
4:10 wonderful film and an incredible
4:12 experience that I had. All I can do is
4:15 just be as honest and emotionally honest
4:18 as I possibly can be about my
4:20 experience. But I hope people will give
4:22 it a shot. Probably one of the better
4:25 indie films for someone to debut on. And
4:28 it really proves that you can make a
4:31 really good film without millions of
4:34 dollars. It also is a lot deeper than I
4:38 think some people might actually have
4:40 the emotional capacity to experience.
4:44 And that's not to be rude or mean, but
4:47 there are people out there that only
4:49 just like to see things as they are.
4:51 They don't want something profound. They
4:53 don't want to seek deeper. They just
4:55 want something to get through the day
4:57 because it's been a bad day. And I get
4:58 it. It's totally fine. And boy, by the
5:01 end of this movie, this movie packs a
5:04 punch that literally made me think back
5:07 on my entire life, what my goals are,
5:10 and what this actually means. And to me,
5:13 that's super impactful for a movie that
5:16 on a directorial debut had me
5:20 emotionally attached to the film in a
5:22 way that actually made me want to shed a
5:24 tear. I know that some of you out there
5:27 don't like when I get too excited about
5:29 a film. In my heart of hearts, I feel
5:32 like this is a movie that everyone can
5:35 relate to in some way. But the longer in
5:39 the tooth you are in life, it'll
5:42 probably affect you a little bit more.
5:44 You might have to have a little bit of
5:45 loss or, you know, experience under your
5:48 belt in order to really truly appreciate
5:50 the the the film that this is. This
5:52 movie really starts off with just a
5:55 regular bunch of kids who are out on an
5:57 adventure and suddenly boom, they hit
6:00 the Twilight Zone. They're driving down
6:01 the road. They they think they miss a
6:04 turn, but they didn't. The GPS says go
6:06 straight even though the road ends. And
6:09 they find out that they're trapped on
6:10 this road forever. There are some things
6:13 that happen in the story that I'm not
6:14 even going to mention. That alone should
6:16 be enough to make you interested in the
6:18 film. in my personal opinion, knowing
6:21 that it's an indie film made on really
6:23 just nothing with a cast that I
6:26 personally didn't recognize, but I think
6:28 did a really fantastic job of playing
6:30 different types of people, friends that
6:33 you might have in your own personal
6:34 friend group or people that you've met
6:36 in your life along the way. I thought
6:39 this was going to be just some simple,
6:41 cool, weird, maybe even scary, and it is
6:45 scary at times, by the way, just
6:47 straightforward horror film that was
6:49 going to make me think about things and
6:51 like get really excited about it. And it
6:54 did all of those things, but it's more
6:56 than that. And that's why I think this
6:58 movie really excels because to me cinema
7:02 and film making there are different
7:04 types of films made for different types
7:06 of situations and sometimes a movie
7:09 might just blow through the atmosphere
7:11 and reach us on an emotional level that
7:14 connects us to this film forever and I
7:16 think that's kind of the magic of film
7:18 is that we have just about every
7:20 experience you can think of for film
7:22 making but I think truly the best films
7:25 are the ones that really reach us deep
7:27 inside and make us look at ourselves and
7:31 the movie reflects us in their film
7:34 which you know not every film's going to
7:36 make you know you reflect on something
7:38 because you may not have experienced it.
7:40 This director is like a very young
7:42 director. He's got some pretty great
7:45 ideas and I think you know is kind of an
7:48 old soul. They say that for a lot of
7:50 people who feel like they've experienced
7:52 life in a deeper way than the years that
7:55 they've actually experienced. It's
7:57 almost like they have insight into the
7:59 future and of past lives. They say to
8:03 experience what life is about. And this
8:05 one just really affected me on a
8:08 personal level. And it made me just
8:10 smile and also kind of reflect on my own
8:13 personal life. And for that, I say this
8:16 is a easy eight and a half, nine out of
8:19 10. There's going to be some people, and
8:21 I saw a review online that drove me
8:23 absolutely insane that gave it a 1 out
8:26 of 10 and it just frustrates the hell
8:28 out of me just because you don't like
8:30 it. Like is just a little percentage of
8:33 the movie. There is great acting. There
8:36 is great shots. There are great ideas,
8:38 storyw writing, and elements [music] in
8:40 this movie that are worth more than a
8:44 one out of 10. And that alone should
8:46 give you a better score for a movie like
8:48 this, even if you didn't like it. This
8:50 isn't Netflix like or dislike. And it
8:53 made me appreciate it in a way that is
8:55 much deeper than many films I've seen
8:58 this year. I think there's another movie
8:59 I watched this year called Else. And if
9:02 you like these kind of films that really
9:03 kind of resonate with you and make you
9:06 feel like a part of the film in some
9:08 way, I highly recommend you check out
9:10 the movie else as well. These are both
9:13 fantastic films, incredible film making
9:16 that I think you should check out. And
9:18 with this movie, it ends. I'm not going
9:20 to promise that it's going to be a 10
9:22 out of 10 for everybody here or a 9 out
9:24 of 10 or an 8 out of 10, but I think it
9:26 should resonate with most of the crowd
9:28 fairly well. But yeah, congratulations
9:31 to Alex Ulam. I cannot wait to see your
9:34 next movie and I would love to have the
9:36 chance to sit down and do a spoiler
9:39 review of this movie. I was so wrapped
9:41 up in what was happening by the end of
9:44 the film when it reveals its ending to
9:46 you, the end of this neverending
9:49 highway. It really had an impact on me
9:52 and I thank you for that. You know, this
9:54 really makes me happy about film making,
9:57 indie film making in particular. If
9:59 you're going to make an indie film, I
10:00 would highly recommend you watch
10:02 something like this to start coming up
10:04 with an idea that isn't going to cost
10:06 you a whole lot of money and has a huge
10:08 impact. But yeah, if you want to rent
10:10 the movie, you can do so with Letterbox.
10:12 It's on an application for your phone or
10:14 you can do it through the website. It's
10:16 totally free to sign up and it does cost
10:18 money to rent the movie which you go to
10:20 the movie itself. it ends and it will
10:23 have a section that says rent movie and
10:25 you could do so for 20 bucks which I
10:27 realize is a lot but you know you're not
10:29 going to be able to see this anywhere
10:30 else. It truly is an original that
10:32 you're not going to get anywhere else.
10:34 So, I'm glad I got a chance to see it,
10:36 but that's why I did it. I watched this
10:38 so that I could tell you guys what to
10:40 think about it and if it's worth the $20
10:42 to you or not. I personally would love
10:44 to own a copy of this and I hope they
10:46 make a a a 4K or whatever of this soon
10:50 because I can't wait to see it again.
10:51 But yeah, let me know what you think in
10:53 the comments section down below about
10:54 anything I had to discuss about did you
10:56 see it? Have you had the same experience
10:59 as me? Did it not resonate with you? Do
11:01 you not connect with the material? It's
11:03 all good. Everybody has their own
11:05 opinions and I totally respect it. We're
11:07 all here to find stuff that we love and
11:09 I hope I can help you find that. So, if
11:12 this movie doesn't hit for you, I'll
11:13 find one for you next time. But thanks
11:15 for coming by and as always, long live
11:18 the void. [music]
