0:00 - What is the anointing of the Holy Spirit
0:02 and what does it do in our lives?
0:04 Let's take a look at the Word of God for answers.
0:06 (uplifting music)
0:11 The word anoint means to smear or to rub.
0:15 Now in the Old Testament,
0:17 there was something called the anointing ceremony.
0:20 And in this ceremony, a prophet of God
0:23 would pour oil over the head of an individual
0:27 or in other cases they would smear oil
0:29 or rub oil onto certain items.
0:32 Now this pouring of the oil represented the Holy Spirit
0:37 of God coming upon someone for a specific purpose.
0:40 For example, when David was anointed to be king,
0:44 this is how it looked.
0:45 1 Samuel 16:13, "So as David stood there among his brothers,
0:50 "Samuel took the flask of olive oil
0:52 "he had brought and anointed David with oil,
0:56 "and the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully
0:59 "upon David from that day on.
1:02 "Then Samuel returned to Ramah."
1:04 So again, this is an example of the anointing ceremony.
1:08 In this specific instance, David was being marked
1:11 by God as the next king of Israel.
1:14 So when the prophet poured the oil on David,
1:18 God was smearing his nature, rubbing his nature onto David,
1:23 so that he could be set apart to fulfill a purpose,
1:26 so that he could have divine backing,
1:29 divine authority, sanctification, being set apart.
1:33 The prophet marked David as the next king, and in doing so,
1:39 the power of the Holy Spirit was released,
1:41 not because there was power necessarily in the oil,
1:44 but there was power in that symbolic act,
1:47 in that as David was being marked with oil,
1:51 he was also being marked with the Holy Spirit.
1:54 And this, again, is a mark of sanctification.
1:57 When God anoints someone or when someone
2:00 in the Old Testament underwent the anointing ceremony,
2:04 it was a sign to everyone that this person is marked.
2:08 This person is set apart.
2:10 This person has been purposed
2:12 for a specific task that God has given to them.
2:15 And not only that, they are being given
2:17 the divine authority to carry out that task.
2:21 So as we just saw in the Old Testament, kings were anointed.
2:25 You can look at 1 Samuel 16, verses 1 and 13.
2:29 Prophets were anointed.
2:31 Just see 1 Kings 19:16.
2:34 Priests were anointed.
2:35 Take a look at Exodus 28, verse 41.
2:39 Special holy items and places such as altars were anointed.
2:43 You can see an example
2:44 of this in Exodus chapter 29, verse 36.
2:47 So in the Old Testament, whenever God wanted to set
2:51 apart an individual or an item as being holy
2:55 or purposed for something divine,
2:57 that person or item would be anointed
3:00 or have oil poured on them or rubbed on them
3:03 and this was a symbol that God was marking them
3:06 or smearing his nature on them.
3:09 Now let's take a look
3:10 at how this looks in the New Testament.
3:12 In the New Testament, we actually still use oil.
3:16 Take a look at Mark chapter 6, verse 13,
3:18 "And they cast out many demons
3:21 "and healed many sick people,
3:22 "anointing them with olive oil."
3:26 James 5:15 says, "Are any of you sick?
3:29 "You should call for the elders
3:31 "of the church to come and pray over you,
3:33 "anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord.
3:36 "Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick
3:39 "and the Lord will make you well.
3:43 "And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven."
3:47 So we see that in the New Testament,
3:49 nowadays, we still use oil.
3:51 We use oil when praying over someone
3:54 and commissioning them into ministry.
3:56 We use oil when praying over the sick.
3:58 We can use oil when praying for people
4:00 to be delivered from demonic power.
4:02 So the oil still works.
4:04 But why does it work?
4:06 It's not because there's power in the oil itself.
4:10 It's because there's power in the act
4:12 of obedience or the act of faith in using oil.
4:14 Now you don't have to use oil to pray for the sick.
4:17 You don't have to use oil to cast out devils.
4:20 You don't have to use oil for anything.
4:21 But when you do use it
4:23 and there's faith involved, God will back that.
4:26 Why? Because the oil represents something.
4:30 The oil is symbolic for something or rather, someone.
4:34 Acts chapter 10, verse 38,
4:36 "And you know that God anointed Jesus
4:40 "of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power.
4:44 "Then Jesus went around doing good
4:46 "and healing all who were oppressed by the devil,
4:49 "for God was with him."
4:51 So you notice here that the scripture says
4:55 that Jesus was anointed not with oil
4:58 but with the Holy Spirit.
4:59 So God anointed Jesus with Holy Spirit power
5:04 and you and I are anointed in the same way.
5:08 So that Old Testament ceremony,
5:11 that smearing of the oil, is symbolic for God
5:15 marking his people with the Holy Spirit,
5:18 and just as an anointing ceremony would set someone apart,
5:22 so the Holy Spirit sets us apart.
5:25 When God pours out his Holy Spirit on his people,
5:29 he's setting them apart for a purpose.
5:31 He's backing them with divine authority.
5:34 He's marking them and saying,
5:36 "This one is mine, set aside for a special purpose."
5:40 When we're marked with the Holy Spirit,
5:42 we're set aside as holy.
5:44 We are sanctified.
5:45 We are put into places of authority and power
5:49 when God pours out his Holy Spirit upon us.
5:52 So the Old Testament shadow, namely the oil,
5:57 represents the New Testament substance,
6:00 who is the Holy Spirit.
6:03 Now it's not charisma or good preaching
6:07 or an exciting personality.
6:09 That's not what the anointing is.
6:11 The anointing, quite simply,
6:13 is the power of the Holy Spirit.
6:16 The anointing is the power of God
6:19 in our lives used to do mighty work.
6:21 So what does the anointing do?
6:24 Before I answer that, let me make this clear.
6:27 There's only one anointing.
6:30 Now that anointing can affect your life
6:33 in many different ways.
6:33 That's the power of God.
6:34 So when I say anointing, just know I mean the power of God
6:37 and the power of God can affect your life in many ways.
6:40 The power of God can work in you.
6:43 The power of God can come upon you.
6:45 The power of God can flow through you.
6:46 It can work around you.
6:48 The power of God has many different things
6:51 that it accomplishes.
6:51 So there's this idea that some believers have
6:55 that they have to collect all these different
6:57 anointings to become the super-Christian.
7:00 So they think, okay, I want the healing anointing
7:02 and I want the prophetic anointing
7:04 and I want the deliverance anointing
7:05 and I want the preaching anointing
7:07 and I want the business anointing
7:08 and I want the favor anointing.
7:09 Oh, I want the Esther anointing
7:11 or I want a Joseph anointing.
7:12 Oh, I want a Moses anointing.
7:13 No, no, that's not how it works.
7:15 There's only one anointing.
7:17 That's the power of God.
7:19 Just as all vehicles these days are powered
7:22 by similar sources, namely gasoline,
7:25 so all gifts, all ministries,
7:27 all expressions of spirituality are empowered
7:31 by the power of the Holy Spirit.
7:33 It may be the same source of power.
7:35 It may be the same fuel, so to speak,
7:38 but that fuel empowers different expressions.
7:41 So you don't have to go
7:42 and do something special to get a prophetic anointing.
7:45 You don't have to go and do something special
7:47 to get the healing anointing
7:48 or say a special prayer to get the deliverance anointing.
7:51 Quite simply, if you want the power
7:53 of the Holy Spirit to work in your life,
7:55 you simply have to walk in obedience to the Word of God.
7:59 Have a prayer life, live holy, know the Word,
8:02 obey the voice of the Holy Spirit,
8:04 and then you become positioned
8:06 because you're surrendered to be used
8:08 by God for whatever purpose he has for you
8:12 and you make yourself available for the Holy Spirit
8:14 to flow through you and work his power
8:16 in any way that he wants to.
8:18 So there's no secret to getting this anointing
8:21 or a secret to getting that anointing
8:23 or a special prayer for this type of expression of power.
8:26 It's simply the power of the Holy Ghost working in you.
8:29 And as you obey God, love Jesus, and obey the Word,
8:33 that power begins to express
8:35 many different things in your life.
8:37 And so when we use terms
8:38 like the deliverance anointing or the healing anointing,
8:41 it's not necessarily wrong to use that terminology,
8:44 but what we actually mean is that the power
8:46 of the Holy Spirit, which is the same in all of us,
8:48 is working in a different way for that moment.
8:50 So people can say,
8:51 "Oh, the healing anointing was so strong."
8:54 And what they mean by that when they say that
8:56 is that people were getting healed
8:58 and that's how the anointing was operating in that moment.
9:01 Or they say something like,
9:02 "Oh, that worship team was so anointed.
9:05 "Oh, the preaching was so anointed."
9:07 And what they're really saying is the power
9:09 of God was very evident in what they were doing.
9:12 Luke chapter 4, verses 17 through 19, say this,
9:16 "The scroll of Isaiah the prophet was handed to him.
9:19 "He unrolled the scroll
9:20 "and found the place where this was written.
9:22 "'The spirit of the Lord is upon me
9:26 "'for he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor.
9:30 "'He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released,
9:34 "'that the blind will see,
9:36 "'that the oppressed will be set free
9:38 "'and that the time of the Lord's favor has come.'"
9:41 So we see just from that portion of scripture alone,
9:44 that the power of God or the anointing
9:47 is to empower our preaching.
9:49 The power of God or the anointing brings deliverance.
9:53 It brings healing.
9:54 It brings freedom.
9:55 It brings blessing and favor.
9:57 The anointing is what makes the difference.
10:00 You see, when we do things
10:03 without the help of the Holy Spirit,
10:06 when we do things in our own strength, by our own power,
10:09 or we rely on our charisma or our giftings
10:12 or our personality or something that we know,
10:16 then we're not relying on the power of the Holy Spirit.
10:20 But when you rely upon the power of the Holy Spirit,
10:24 there's actual ability to make a difference.
10:27 Only the anointing can break spiritual bondages.
10:31 Only the anointing can bring forth miracles.
10:34 Only the anointing can make our preaching
10:36 and teaching effective to where it brings transformation
10:39 in the soul, in the mind, and in the body,
10:41 and in the lives of those who listen to the preaching.
10:44 The anointing makes the difference.
10:47 So what is the anointing?
10:49 The anointing is the power of the Holy Spirit
10:53 and the anointing brings healing, deliverance,
10:56 power for preaching, freedom to the captives.
10:59 It brings blessing and favor.
11:01 The anointing makes the difference.
11:03 The anointing strengthens ministry.
11:05 The anointing makes your life more effective
11:07 for use unto the glory of God.
11:09 The anointing can be at work in you.
11:13 All you have to do is surrender to the Holy Spirit.
11:16 There's no gimmick.
11:17 There's no secret.
11:18 There's no information that only
11:20 some spiritual elite group knows.
11:23 It's as simple as loving Jesus,
11:25 obeying the word, having a prayer life, and living right.
11:30 Just obey and trust the Holy Spirit
11:33 and that power will begin to flow.
11:35 And I'm gonna pray that it flows right now.
11:38 Father, we thank you that you've anointed those who know you
11:44 and I pray today, Lord, that you would pour out
11:48 your spirit upon all of us in a fresh way.
11:51 Let that anointing begin to work in our lives.
11:55 Father, bring healing, bring deliverance,
11:58 bring peace of mind.
12:00 Bring refreshing as only you can.
12:04 Break every bondage in the name of Jesus.
12:08 And Lord, we also pray that you would cause us
12:10 to be vessels of your power.
12:12 Use our lives for your glory
12:15 and cause us to demonstrate your power
12:19 in love to those who need it.
12:22 Now I'm praying that a fresh anointing comes on you.
12:25 Father, pour out your spirit in a fresh way
12:31 upon each and everyone watching
12:36 in the name of Jesus.
12:38 I want you to say it because you believe it.
12:40 Say amen.
12:41 Here now is a question for conversation.
12:44 How have you seen the anointing work
12:47 for you and through you?
12:49 Tell me about it in the comment section right now.
12:52 If you haven't already, make sure to subscribe

12:58 so you can receive notices when we put out new videos.
13:01 And remember, you can also follow us
13:04 wherever you're watching us.
13:06 I wanna share a scripture with you
13:07 and it's found in 2 Corinthians chapter nine.
13:10 I'm gonna read verse 10 to you.
13:12 "For God is the one who provides seed
13:14 "for the farmer and then bread to eat.
13:17 "In the same way, He will provide
13:19 "and increase your resources
13:22 "and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you."
13:26 I think we have to be broken
13:28 from the mindset that we give to get.
13:31 Yes, when you give, God does increase your resources.
13:36 But notice that the scripture says
13:38 that the harvest God wants to produce
13:40 in you isn't just you receiving blessing.
13:44 The harvest God wants to produce
13:46 in you is a harvest of generosity.
13:49 This is why he blesses you.
13:51 This is why he provides resources.
13:53 God gives seed to the farmer.
13:56 Now whether you have a little bit
13:57 of resources or you have a lot of resources,
14:00 God has entrusted you with something, and God looks
14:04 and sees how we handle what he's given to us.
14:08 And if we steward well what God has given to us,
14:13 then God increases our resources, again,
14:15 not just so we can get but so that we can be generous.
14:19 So if you want to be one
14:23 through whom God releases resources,
14:26 then he has to be able to trust you
14:28 with what you have right now.
14:31 So I wanna encourage you, step out in faith
14:34 and release resources into this ministry
14:37 that God might produce a harvest of generosity in you.
14:41 When you give to this ministry,
14:42 you're helping us on the mission of soul-winning,
14:46 not just changing lives, but also changing eternities.
14:50 This is so key that God's people begin to back his work,
14:55 that the work might continue to go and grow.
14:58 Help us release the content, do the live streams,
15:01 host the events, and host the Holy Spirit School online.
15:06 Get behind these projects.
15:07 And when you give,
15:08 you're not just supporting those many projects.
15:10 You're also supporting the ministry as a whole.

15:29 Help us on our mission to win souls.
15:31 I know God has blessed you with a generous heart.
15:34 I know you love the Lord.

15:37 I know you love this ministry,
15:39 so stand with us and stand with the thousands
15:42 of supporters around the world as we all rally together,
